Udupi, Apr 26: In an inspiring celebration of sportsmanship and youth talent, Silas PU College successfully hosted the first edition of the ‘Silas Trophy’ Inter-School Cricket Tournament on its campus grounds on April 21. The event drew enthusiastic participation from student-athletes and spectators alike, highlighting the vital role of sports in shaping character and teamwork.
The grand inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of distinguished guests including Jacintha D’Costa, head mistress of Silas International School; Akhtar, administrator of Flowers of Paradise Public School; and Dr George, principal of Silas PU College. Coaches, umpires, and budding cricketers added to the electric atmosphere.




In her opening remarks, Jacintha D’Costa called on students to actively embrace sports as a way to build discipline and resilience. This tournament remains a celebration of true sportsmanship, she affirmed.
Dr George echoed the sentiment, urging players to uphold the spirit of the game. “Cricket is a gentleman’s game, and we must always honour its values on and off the pitch,” he said.
The tournament unfolded with thrilling matches, showcasing exceptional batting, tight bowling, and moments of sheer athletic brilliance. After a series of competitive fixtures, Glowinstar Integrated School emerged as the champions, lifting the coveted Silas Trophy. Carmel English Medium School, Kemmannu secured the runners-up position with a spirited performance.
The man of the series was awarded to Namith Shetty of Glowinstar Integrated School and Dhanush Shetty won the best batsman award. Mohammad Aqid won the best bowler award.
The event not only highlighted sporting talent but also fostered camaraderie and respect among the young athletes. With a successful inaugural edition, Silas Trophy is poised to become a much-anticipated annual event in the region's school sports calendar.
