Mangalore, March 12: St Joseph College Jeppu celebrated its first annual day on Saturday, March 12. The programme was presided over by Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’ Souza, Bishop of Mangalore. Prabhakar Neermarga was the Chief Guest of the day.
In his Presidential address Bishop said that he is giving a clarion call to all the students to be open to well being of all by respecting all the people of this country and build a society of harmony and peace. The students were called upon to join hands to build the nation by hard work and dedication and motivation.
Appreciating the progress of the college within a short period of one year Bishop also said that all our institutions stand for values and discipline. He assured his support and said that this is the first birthday of the College. Normally the birthday is celebrated by blowing off the candle but he said that we will not permit the candle to be blown off but allow it to burn so that it gives light to all who walk into the portals of this institution. He felicitated all the awardees and the Prize winners.
Prabhakar Neermarga the Chief Guest of the day appreciated and commended the work of Catholic Board of Education for the contribution in the development of the district and for giving a quality education where values and discipline is given top priority. He also called upon the parents and the teachers to transform their children and the students as soldiers of discipline. He also assured all assistance from the side of the University for the further growth and development of the college.
Earlier the President of the function gave away the Merit certificates to the meritorious students and the Chief Guest distributed the prizes for the winners in various competitions conducted by the college.
Sunitha D’ Souza the English Lecturer who secured Gold medal in the Post Graduation studies was felicitated by the President.
The programme began with observing one minute silence in memory of the tsunami victims in Japan. Rev Fr J B Crasta, Correspondent of the College welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering. Rev Fr Eric Crasta, the Principal of the College presented the Annual Report. Sunitha D’ Souza the English lecturer delivered the vote of thanks.The students put up a clourful cultural programme after the stage programme.
