Mangalore, Mar 10: Vice-chancellor of Mangalore University, Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy, announced at the fourth meeting of the academic council held in the syndicate hall of the university on Wednesday March 9, that it has been decided to grant university affiliation to six more new colleges from the next academic year.
These new colleges to be affiliated are Unity Academy of Education in the city, Goal College of Information Technology, Mahesh College of Management, Padua College of Commerce and Management, Goretti College of Commerce and Management Karkala, and Paradise Institute of Hotel Management. He said that the colleges are being accorded temporary affiliation for a period of five years, and that the affiliations will be withdrawn if the inspection team finds shortage of basic infrastructure and identifies other problems. He warned that the subjects in colleges should be taught by expert lecturers in the subject, and the practice of other lecturers taking such classes will be viewed seriously.
He also revealed that the university’s cell on sexual abuse on women within the university campus has been reconstituted.
At the meeting, university’s budget that expects Rs 4.74 crore excess of expenditure over income, was presented by finance officer of the university, Prof Pakeerappa. Pakeerappa said that if the grants from the state and central governments do not match the expectations, administrative costs will be cut down.
University registrar, Dr Chinnappa Gowda, registrar (examinations), Dr P S Yadapadittaya, and finance officer, Prof Pakeerappa, were present.
