Puttur, Mar 8: On Monday March 7, JDS activists staged protest and dharna in front of the municipal office here. They condemned the functioning style of the municipality.

JDS Dakshina Kannada district president, M B Sadashiva, addressing the protestors, charged the opposition party in the municipal council, of having joined hands with the ruling party, in fleecing the citizens. He alleged that the ruling party is following the policy of nepotism, because of which, the wards of influential councillors alone have witnessed good progress. He alleged that development works have come to a standstill in other wards.

JDS leader, U Lokesh Hegde, accused the municipal administration of choosing BJP activists as beneficiaries under schemes relating to the distribution of sites, and allotment of houses under ‘Ashraya’ scheme. He said that works are not at all being taken up in the town, and wherever they have been started, the works have been abandoned midway. He said that his party will soon take up stronger methods of protest against the pathetic waste disposal methods of the municipality.

JDS state youth wing general secretary, Ibrahim Golikatte, urged the municipality to absorb the 19 labourers working as watermen as permanent employees of the municipality. Other leaders, I C Kailas, Ashraf Kallega, and Khader Haji Koornadka, also spoke on the occasion. The protestors were led by a number of leaders including K S N Nidvannaya, Puttur assembly constituency JDS president.

Municipal president, Kamala Anand, vice-president, Vinaya Bhandary, and chief officer, Shivalinga Kondadakuli, approached the protestors and received the memorandum presented by them.
