Mangaluru, Dec 30: A man who killed his three children by pushing them into a well has been sentenced to death by the court.

The tragic incident occurred on June 23, 2022, in the jurisdiction of Mulki police station near S Kodi. The father, Vijesh Shettigar, was found guilty of murdering his children—Rashmita (14), Uday (11), and Dakshit (4)—by pushing them into a well.

According to reports, the crime stemmed from family disputes. After killing his children, Vijesh tried to force his wife to jump into the well with him in a suicide attempt. However, locals rushed to the scene and managed to rescue both Vijesh and his wife. Unfortunately, the children had already died. Vijesh, a flower vendor near Padmanoor, was arrested following the incident.

The case was tried at the 3rd Additional District and Sessions Court. A total of 32 witnesses were examined during the trial. After evaluating the evidence and arguments, the court declared Vijesh guilty.

Presiding judge Sandhya S sentenced Vijesh to death under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and imposed 10 years of imprisonment under Section 307 of the IPC for the attempted murder of his wife.

Government prosecutor Mohan Kumar B represented the prosecution and ensured the conviction by presenting all evidence and witness testimonies effectively.

While he has no right to take his children's or wife's life including his own ..I wouldn't have accorded such a sentence from an humanitarian angle . Probably the judge is seeking some monetary favors .We know how corrupt these judges are.

The lower courts r infested with women judges may be due to women reservation and often carry lack wisdom or show utter vengeance in giving verdicts for eg arul subash case we have seen such cases , higher court's probably may commute this to life anyway.
