Mangalore: Bantwal, Beltangady TPs Elect Presidents, Vice-Presidents

Mangalore, Feb 12: Shylaja P Shetty from the BJP, who represents Ammunje constituency, was elected to the post of the president of Bantwal taluk panchayat, at the election held on Friday February 11. Dinesh Amtoor from Mani constituency rose to the post of the vice-president.

Mangalore assistant commissioner, Prabhulinga Kavalikatti, was the returning officer for the election held at the SGSRY auditorium. The election was conducted through the show of hands.

Shylaja is a second time TP member, and happens to be a member of the party’s Mangalore constituency committee. Dinesh, an activist of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, is associated with various social organizations

In addition to the above, Ida Suresh and Kamala, both from the Congress, had filed their nominations for the posts of the president and vice-president respectively.

BJP has a simple majority of 16 members in the 33-member taluk panchayat here. Congress has 16 members. Taluk panchayat executive officer, K Vasantaraj Shetty, tahsildar, Ravichandra Nayak, and other officials were present.

In Beltangady, Mamata Shetty of the BJP was elected as the president, while Santosh Kumar of that party  became vice-president, at the election held in the taluk panchayat auditorium on Friday. Puttur assistant commissioner, Dr Harish Kumar, and tahsildar, M K Pramila, were present.

Both of them got elected unanimously, as no other nominations were received. In the 24-member taluk panchayat here, the BJP has 19 seats.

Mamata represents Kuvettu constituency. She had earlier functioned as a member and president of Kuvettu gram panchayat. Santosh Kumar is a first time TP member from Laila constituency.
