Puttur, Feb 11: Amit Singh, who was functioning as the assistant superintendent of police (ASP) here since about a year, has been promoted as senior assistant superintendent of police and transferred to Bangalore. Amit Singh, who had reported for duty as the assistant superintendent of police at Mangalore, had later been transferred here.
It may be recalled that Bantwal Urban Development Authority chairman and BJP leader, A Govind Prabhu had alleged that the ASP had assaulted him without any provocation. BJP workers had organized a huge protest in front of the rural police station in Bantwal, and in front of the official residence of the ASP in Puttur. The ASP had denied the charge of assault, and clarified that he had sent Prabhu out of the police station for trying to interfere with police investigation. After a forceful demand was made for action against Amit Singh, district superintendent of police, Dr A Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, had sent a report about the incident to the director general of police.
Rohini, an IPS officer, has been appointed as the ASP in place of Amit Singh. Rohini, wife of Kundapur ASP, Ram Niwas, had earlier been posted to Bhatkal. It is learnt that her earlier transfer order stands cancelled.
