Udupi, Mar 23: "There are ample opportunities in the film industry for people with the knowledge of technology, visual effects, animation, graphics and similar domains.  Film industry requires 10,000 to 20,000 graduates in film specialized courses, every year.  Digital revolution is going up, Everyday it is learning and everyday it is evolving. Aesthetics and techniques keep on changing. Hence, we need to keep updated," said Ashok Kashyap, member of  Karnataka Chalanachithra Academy, Bengaluru (KCA) and a renowned cinematographer.

  

He was speaking  after the inauguration of a workshop on ‘Film making skill development’ held at MIC auditorium here on Wednesday, March 23. It was organized by Manipal Institute of Communication in association with Karnataka Chalanachithra Academy, Bengaluru and Department of Information & Public Relations, Government of Karnataka. The resource person Ashok Kashyap further said , "Most of the technicians, who are working in the film industry in the division of animation, graphics, and visual effects are Indians, but they are working in countries abroad. The directors and producers of foreign films are doing technical work of filmmaking in India. Hence, students should know film making skills." 

He further said that the Karnataka Film Academy had proposed to the government to work on making a Film City in Mysuru or anywhere else in Karnataka. "We need more film universities here to reach the target graduates. We also approached the government to preserve old films of all languages digitally," he added. "During our graduation period, it was not easy to get a seat in universities. But, today’s students are so blessed and getting required infrastructures at colleges to explore their talent. When we don’t update  ourselves, we will get outdated," he said.  

Dr Padmarani, Director, MIC Manipal presided over the programme and she urged the students to get the best out of this opportunity. Manjunath, joint director, Department of Information and Public Relations Sriraj Gudi, member, Karnataka Chalanachithra Academy, Bengaluru and Shubha H S, HoD, Media studies were present.
