Kundapur, Jan 22: A woman who had started a fire in order to drive away the winter chill suffered from grave injuries after her sari accidentally caught fire. She did not respond to treatments and breathed her last. This incident happened at Hattikudri in Basrur village on Friday January 21.
The woman who lost her life in this way has been identified as Buddu Mogaveerthi (78), a resident of Hattikudru ink Basrur village. She was seated near a fire that she had lit near the kitchen in order to drive away the winter cold on January 19 morning, when her sari accidentally caught fire. Within no time fire engulfed most parts of her body. She was immediately taken to the government hospital here and then to the district hospital Udupi after finding that she needed advanced care. The doctors in Udupi advised her to be shifted to Mangaluru. Buddu was thereafter admitted into Wenlock Hospital Mangaluru.
At about 8.30 am on Friday, Buddu breathed her last without responding to treatments. On the basis of a complaint filed by her daughter, Jyothi Mogaveerthi, a case in this respect has been registered in Kundapur rural police station.
