Puttur, Jan 19: The Uppinangady police have arrested two Puttur residents on Wednesday, January 19 for allegedly stealing areca nuts.
Vasanth Devadiga, a resident of Biliyoor village, Bantwal had spread areca nuts on his yard for drying when they were stolen. He had lodged a police complaint at Uppinangady police station on January 12 that unidentified miscreants had stolen the areca nuts on the night of January 11.
Based on the complaint, police intercepted an auto rickshaw in which the accused were traveling near Uppinangady-Nekkilady junction and arrested them. The accused are Vinay Kumar (31), a resident of Chikkamadkur village and Mohammed Junaid (24) of Kemmayi junction, Chikkamadkur village. Police have also seized the areca nuts and auto rickshaw from the accused.
