Mangalore, Dec 7:
A three-day National Translation Mission commenced at St Aloysius College Teletorium, here on Tuesday, December 7.

Dr K Srinivasacharya, coordinatior of National Translation Mission(NTM) introduced the concept of translation and said that translation would enrich the Indian languages. NTM is a government of India initiative to make knowledge-based texts accessible in all Indian languages listed in the 8th schedule of the Constitution through translation. The idea of NTM stemmed from a statement of the Prime Minister of India stressing how vital is the access to translated material, for increasing access to knowledge in many critical areas, he added.

The chief guest Dr A Lourdusamy said that translation enables language and makes the knowledge accessible to the non-native speaker of the source language. Translation also enables better communication of ideas from the source language to the target group.

Fr Swebert D’Silva, principal and the president of the seminar said that translation would make sure that the young generation will have a better exposure to the richness of the entire literary text available to us.

Dr Alwyn D’Sa welcomed the gathering. Manual Souza compered. Sofronia led the gathering into prayer. Gnayana Moorti proposed the vote of thanks.

The programme is jointly organised by National Translation Mission Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore and St Aloysius College Mangalore.

Prof Rajendra Chenni of Kuvempu University, Prof Shivaram Pakikkal and Fr Stany D’Souza, the vice-principal of the college were present on the occasion.

I am happy to read this article and I will be very grateful if St Aloysius College or any other organisation has an office available for the public who can come and get letters, documents & other correspondence translated for them.
I continuously get bogged down with language problems- letters that come to me in kannada or tamil cannot be understood as I do not know either of these languages.

Getting a certified copy of the translation is a near impossible task presently.

Is there any organisation in Mngalore that does this presently
