California (USA), Dec 8: Renowned Konkani film ‘Anthyarambha’, directed by 73-year-old Dr Ramesh Kamath, will be screened in the United States by the Konkani Association of California (KAOCA). The special screening is scheduled for Sunday, December 15, at the Age Well Center in Fremont, California. The event is open to all Konkani-speaking people in California and is free of charge.

Dr Kamath, a graduate of the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, is a stalwart in Konkani cinema. Of the eight Saraswat Konkani films produced so far, Dr Kamath has directed four, cementing his legacy as a pioneer in the industry.

Anthyarambha has recently been screened in Bengaluru and Mangaluru, receiving acclaim from both audiences and critics for its innovative approach. Notably, the film marks the first travelogue in the Konkani language, a bold endeavour by Dr Kamath.

The story of Anthyarambha revolves around Madhukar, a wealthy elderly man diagnosed with terminal cancer and given six months to live. Determined to make the most of his remaining time, Madhukar embarks on a profound journey to revisit key milestones in his life: his school, his business ventures, his chain of hotels and resorts, and the people who shaped his experiences. Through this poignant journey, he reflects on the lessons he has learned and concludes that every ending is, in fact, a new beginning.

Dr Kamath himself plays the lead role of Madhukar, supported by an impressive cast including Damodhar Nayak, Prathiksha Kamath, Stany Alwaris, Vitobha Bhandarkar, Sheela Nayak, Uday Jadugar, Anand Nagarkar, Master Adithya Kamath, Yatharth Shenoy, Narasimha Prabhu, Prakash Kini, Vasudha Prabhu, and others.

The film features cinematography by PVR Swamy, editing by Nagesh Narayan, music by Srisuresh, and playback singing by Shankar Shanbhag. It is produced by Kiranmayi R Kamath, with story, screenplay, lyrics, and direction by Dr Ramesh Kamath.

This event promises to be a celebration of Konkani culture and cinema, showcasing the unique storytelling that Anthyarambha offers to audiences worldwide.
