Mangalore: Lions Club Gandhinagar Hosts Dist Level Disabled Meet

Mangalore, Dec 3: Lions Club Gandhinagar in association with Women and Child Welfare Department, Disabled and Senior Citizens’ Welfare Society and various self-help organizations held a district level disabled  meet to commemorate ‘World Disabled Day’ at Town Hall here on Friday December 3.



 

District-in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar inaugurated. Speaking on the occasion he said that the amount of Rs 20 crores which was reserved for the disabled people in the budget has not been allotted by the concerned department due to some trivial reasons.

He assured that this year’s 10 crore budget reserved for the benefit of disabled will be made available soon. He lauded the efforts of various self-help organizations for their service towards the disabled and also the volunteers and the special schools who toil for the better future of these special children. He also informed that in the coming year the Government quota for the disabled will be facilitated.

MJF Ln P Krishna Rao, vice-district governor was the chief guest for the function. Ln Harish Kalbavi, president, Ln Hareesh Kumble, secretary and Lions district chairman and Ln Sanath Kumar Jain, treasurer among others were present. B P Puttuswami, district disabled welfare officer welcomed the gathering and proposed the vote of thanks.
 
Live music show was performed by Muralidhar Naik and the magic show by Ln Lolaksha enthralled the audience. An awareness rally was organized to provide more opportunities for the disabled children.
