Mangaluru/Udupi, Oct 17: Heavy rains lashed the twin districts from the afternoon and evening of Saturday October 16 and disrupted normal life.
Traffic was blocked at Dharmasthala for more than one and half hours. Three flights could not land at the international airport of Mangaluru and were diverted to Bengaluru.
The meteorological department has warned of incessant rains in the next four days in the state of Kerala and coastal Karnataka.

In Mangaluru city heavy downpour occurred on the night of Saturday and several areas were logged with water.
Various areas of Sullia, Puttur and Vittal also experienced heavy rains. In Mangaluru, Bantwal and Beltangady overcast conditions prevailed during the day on Saturday.
Though there was good sunshine in the district of Udupi, heavy rains lashed in the evening at Udupi, Manipal, Kaup, Shirva, Katapadi, Kallianpur and Santhekatte.
As it was the weekend, traffic jams were observed at Kalsanka and Karavali junctions of Udupi city. Karkala and Kundapur taluks received light rains.
Many areas of Bantwal taluk including the heavily congested B C Road received heavy rains on the night of Saturday accompanied by thunder and lightning. Traffic was affected from Kaikamba to Farangipet as water logging occurred on the highway.
Traffic was affected at Dharmasthala for more than one and half hour as water overflowed the minor bridge at Mannapalla near bathing ghat.
In the city of Mangaluru water gushed inside the shops at Kottara chowki and fourth mile areas. As the underpass at Padil is filled with water, vehicles are moving at snail’s pace. Drainage was overflowing in areas of Kodialbail and M G Road. The rain continued battering the city till late night.
Three flights that arrived at the international airport of the city from Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru could not land and were diverted to Bengaluru. If the situation gets cleared these flights will return back to Mangaluru during late in the night or in the wee hours. Otherwise they will arrive at Mangaluru on Sunday, October 17 as per the information provided by airport authorities.
The procession of Goddess Sharada organized by Car Street Sarvajanika Sri Sharad Mahotsava samiti that took place on the night of Saturday got delayed due to incessant rains.
