Action will be taken against attempts of religious conversion within framework of law: Parameshwara

Bengaluru, Feb 4 (IANS): Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Tuesday warned amid reported attempts of digital religious conversion in Bengaluru, and said that action would be initiated within the legal framework by the police if any complaint regarding forceful religious conversion is received.

When asked about a new way of religious conversion using a QR code, Parameshwara stated, “I don’t know about the case. We don’t know about the development. The Anti-Religious Conversion Act was brought in 2020-21 during the tenure of the BJP government and we have taken action to withdraw the act. We have to see in what stage it is in the Law department.”

An incident involving public objections to the distribution of cards containing a QR code leading to Bible teachings came to light in Bengaluru on Monday.

Hindu activists and local residents have alleged an attempt at religious ‘conversion’ through digital means.

The incident occurred in the Begur locality of Bengaluru. According to the police, a group of women on Begur Main Road were distributing cards resembling personal visiting cards, each containing a QR code.

The women claimed that if people were facing issues such as life problems, unemployment or difficulties in getting married, scanning the QR code would provide them with solutions.

One woman, after noticing the group interacting with passersby and distributing the cards, approached them to inquire about their activities.

The group told her that if she had any difficulties in life, she could find solutions by scanning the QR code.

When the woman scanned the QR code on the spot, it led to teachings from the Holy Bible.

Upon discovering the religious content, the woman confronted the group, but the women distributing the QR-coded cards quickly left.

Hindu activists have demanded action against the digital religious ‘conversion’ attempts in Bengaluru.

The police have said that they will verify facts if any formal complaint is filed. Further details on the case are yet to emerge.

In a related development, Karnataka Police arrested one person on July 22, 2024, in connection with an alleged religious conversion attempt targeting Hindu pilgrims in the Ballari district. The accused was reportedly targeting devotees walking to the Hindu pilgrimage centre in Mantralaya.

Additionally, in November 2022, at least 12 individuals were arrested in Kanakapura taluk of Ramanagara district for attempting to convert tribal people to another religion.

More recently, on September 3, 2024, Karnataka Police arrested a 27-year-old postgraduate medical student, Mohammad Danish Khan, in Udupi district for allegedly attempting to forcefully convert his classmate to another religion.

Christians need to know the Bible well so that they are firmly rooted in faith . and not Confused by constant accusations 1) Jesus is the first born of all the creation (Col 1:15-20). All things were created through Him. (John 1:1-4) Jesus was the light created on the first day. (Jn 8:12 and Jn 9:5,Rev 21) Adam was created on the 6th day. When Bible gives the age of Adam, it is calculated from the day God blew His breath into Adam. So it leaves open to anybody’s guess as to how long God took to create Adam. It is important to note that Bible states that in God’s eyes “ a day is LIKE A YEAR” meaning that it could be any number of years”. After the great flood only Noah and his three sons were left and the people of this world are descendants of the three sons of Noah. 2) Jesus through whom God created Adam and Eve spoke Aramaic . Even Abraham Spoke Aramaic apart from other languages. Hebrew also very similar to Aramaic. This means even though Jesus (Lord) gave the 10 commandments in Hebrew to Moses. As hundred of years had had passed since Abraham and Moses could speak only Hebrew. Bible records that after the Tower of Babel fiasco God made people speak different languages ( Gen 11) and split Pangea into 7 continents. If one googles Pangea and www.visualcapitalist he will get an Idea , though the time line given may not be accurate probably because of confusion as to what does a day mean as explained in point no 1 3) Only this earth is habitable and neither Moon not any Planet is habitable just because there is presence of water . oops the following was omitted 3) Only this earth is habitable and neither Moon not any Planet is habitable just because there is presence of water . The account of creation of the earth in Genesis1:6-11 explains why NASA has found water in the satellites of the planets. My take is that Pluto and other dwarf Planets were formerly satellites of some planets which were emptied during the great floods. Then how did the waters recede? My take is that God stored the water in an ocean below the sea. Nasa has already unearthed this ocean below the sea . It would be good Idea to say prayer to the Guardian Angel as a part of morning prayer

Adapting a religion should be individual's choice. An individual should decide what is right and what is wrong. Propagating a religion is one's freedom. If someone is getting converted from one religion to another without any force, then it is the time to self assessment. Individuals should be given with teachings of religion and should leave it to them to decide which religion to choose.

Conversion is a fundamental right guaranteed by the constitution. That is why the INDIA block keep raising the Constitution of India as it is under attack by the Sanghis. Introduction to the bible or Gita or Koran is also a fundamental right and any introduction to the holy books is no cause for any legal action. In fact any action about this is ultra vires the constitution.
