Udupi, Oct 22: District deputy commissioner (DC), P Hemalata, exhorted the society at large to take up activities to ensure that the memories of the martyrs who lay down their lives for protecting the country and the law and order situation, remain etched in the minds of people perpetually.
She was speaking aftter offering floral tributes to the martyrs at the District Armed Police premises here on Thursday October 21, at a function organized as part of Martyrs’ Day. On the occasion, she handed over a sum of two lac rupees to the family of Sridhar, who lost his life while engaged in law and order duties. On behalf of Sridhar’s mother, his father and wife received the fund.
District superintendent of police, Pravin Madhukar Pawar, read out the list of policemen who lost their lives during duty hours, and paid rich tributes to them. Respects to the martyrs were paid by firing three rounds in the air. Platoon commander, A Yadawad, led the formation of different police contingents.
Deputy superintendent of police, Jayant Shetty, welcomed. Circle inspector of police, S V Girish, proposed vote of thanks. B Manmohan Rao of the police control room compered the programme.
