Udupi, Oct 2: About 14 months back, Salam, a youth from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh (UP), was lying on the streets before being rescued and admitted to the House of Faith (Vishwasada Mane) orphanage in Shankarapura here as a mentally ill person.
Today, he leaves the place to return to his homeland, recovered and with his head held high.
Salam, who had been in a deplorable physical as well as psychological condition, recieved much care from the House of Faith, under pastor Sunil John D'Souza. Soon, he was able to recall his name, address and mother's name.
pastor Sunil took the initiative to find out more about the youth's roots and wrote a letter to Salam's mother. However, there was no response. Incidentally, Salam's father happens to be in Dubai.
Not willing to give up, pastor Sunil tried a second time, and was rewarded. As soon as the letter made its way to Salam's mother, his uncle Nabeedulla and family friend Jaya Sharma came down to the House of Faith.
It was a heart-touching reunion for the uncle and his nephew, who prepared to go back to his hometown to meet his mother. The farewell accorded to Salam by the other inmates on Thursday September 30 was equally memorable.
