Udupi, Aug 15: Two anchored boats got washed away into sea after their ropes snapped. The incident occurred at Malpe port at around 4 am on Saturday, August 14.
Fortunately, diving experts Eshwar Malpe, Zameer Kalmady and team rescued both the boats and prevented their capsizing.
'Pavanadri' and 'Ishan Amina' deep sea fishing boats were anchored near the first phase of the port near the rivulet. Due to the force of water currents in the rivulet, the ropes of both boats snapped and the boats were washed away into the sea.
The boats were drifting towards St Mary’s Island, and there was a chance that they would have hit the rocks near the island. The traditional fishing boat fishermen, who saw the boats moving towards the Island, informed the matter to diving experts.
Eshwar Malpe and Zameer Kalmady got into the rescue act immediately with the help of Umesh Padukare team and reached the boats by traditional fishing boats. After some efforts, they brought both the boats safely back to Malpe port.
It is learnt that if the boats, worth crore of rupees, had not been rescued on time, they would have hit the rocks and capsized in sea within minutes.
