Mangaluru, Feb 4: Carmel School CBSE, Kotekar organized a highly impactful Cyber Crime Awareness session for both students and staff. The event, which commenced with a prayer song led by the students, setting a respectful tone for the day.

The distinguished guest speaker, Geetha Kulkarni, assistant commissioner of police from the Cyber Crime and Research Bureau (CCRB) Unit, delivered an insightful presentation on the growing issue of cybercrime. She defined cybercrime as any illegal activity conducted through digital platforms and highlighted its potential dangers in today’s interconnected world.

In addition to the guest speaker, several esteemed dignitaries graced the event, including Sr Juliana Mary AC, the joint secretary, Sr Pramila D'Souza A C, the principal, Sr Anitha AC, the vice principal of Stella Maris Kannada Higher Primary School.

The event began with a formal welcome address by principal Sr Pramila D'Souza, who underscored the critical importance of cyber safety in today’s digital age. Geetha Kulkarni shared valuable guidance on cultivating a positive online presence, advising students to "always see good things, spread good things, and talk good things" as part of a cyber-safe mindset. She also highlighted essential principles of cyber safety, such as avoiding unknown calls, steering clear of clicking on suspicious links, and never discussing financial matters over the phone without verifying the caller’s identity. Furthermore, Geetha recommended that students refrain from using mobile phones until the age of 18, encouraging them to prioritize their studies in the meantime.

The session also included an interactive Q&A segment, providing students with the opportunity to ask questions and engage with the speaker. Geetha emphasized the importance of personal responsibility in preventing cybercrime and the need to stay aware of digital threats.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Nidhi of Grade 8, expressing gratitude to the speaker and attendees. Bhuvi, also from Grade 8, expertly compered the entire program, ensuring the smooth flow of the event.

Overall, the cyberCrime awareness session was a resounding success, equipping students with the essential knowledge and tools to navigate the digital world safely. The session reinforced the motto: "Stay Secure, Stay Smart."
