Mangaluru: Youth Day celebrated at Neermarga church

Media Release

Mangaluru, Aug 11: National Youth Sunday is a unique opportunity to endorse and reassure Catholic youth in their comprehension of Christian faith and vocation, and their personal commitment to Catholic values and focus on the integrated growth of the youth and on their postliminary commitment towards the Church and the larger society in India.

The propitious day was marked with creative liturgy animated by the ICYM.

Fr Anil D Mello, parish priest celebrated the Mass and prayed for the youth. He offered his reflections drawing from the day’s Readings and Gospel Reading which recounts the story of Prophet Elijah’s time of trial and the comfort and strength offered to him by God through His Angel.

"Elijah is fed so that he may be strengthened for his journey. The nourishment that God gives is always towards fulfilling a purpose, a mission , thereafter , Fr Anil exhorted the youth to exercise important lessons from the life of Elijah: 1. Like Elijah when going through some life-threatening situations, fatigued, stressed-out, addiction to drugs and alcohol and finally giving rise to urge to end life. The only solution is to participate in the Eucharistic banquet and to cling to God who will save His children from upheavals of Life. 2. God provides in unimaginable ways 3. To live in love and understanding with one another– superbly explicated with concrete examples," he said.

The youth choir added to the solemnity of the ceremony.
