Ballari: Leap of leopards kills nine male sheep

Ballari, Aug 5: A group of leopards came to Appenahalli Tanda in Kudligi in the district on the night of Wednesday August 3 searching for prey. The animals killed nine sheep which were tethered in front of a house and took away three of the male sheep.

The sheep belonging to Jana Naik panicked at the sight of so many leopards and struggled to escape. Jana Naik and his wife Sangeetha Bai, woke to the sound. They saw the leopards, Frightened, they went into the house and closed the doors. They saw the leopards killing their nine sheep and taking away two of them.

In the morning, the forest staff of Gudekote forest range visited the spot and scrutinized the damage. Jana Naik and his wife used to migrate to areas where sugarcane harvesting work is available at this time every year. However, because of coronavirus pandemic fears, they had decided to stay on and look after their family by rearing the sheep. This decision proved costly for them.
