Mangaluru: Thumbe dam full - No water pangs for city this summer

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 14: The people of the city who are reeling under the shadow of terror let loose by Covid19, are relieved at least on water supply front. Because, Thumbe vented dam that feeds water to the city is full and the monsoon is about a month ahead.

The water level in the dam located near B C Road across River Netravati will be sufficient to meet the water requirement of the city till the onset of monsoon rains. The officials say that because of the fact that north-east monsoon which continued till January and the rains which came later have ensured that River Netravati got enough water on its own and from its tributaries.

As at Saturday, Thumbe dam held six metres of water. The people of the city and people who entirely depend on water from the dam may not face any problems this summer," said city corporation commissioner, Akshy Sridhar.

The people of the city normally face water shortage during the summer months. Sometimes, water supply through tankers is resorted to in order to meet the demand for water. The officials, who are busy tackling the Covid issue, were worried about having to handle water emergencies this summer in addition to the pandemic. Now their worries have blown over as they need not rack their brains on this issue.
