Mangaluru: Women's team takes upon disposal of Covid victims’ bodies honourably

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 26: National Women's Front, an all-women team of volunteers, has been organizing the funeral of women who die of Covid-19 infection in an honourable way. At a time when others are wary of coming in the proximity of the mortal remains of the people who die of this infection, this team of women social workers has volunteered itself to undertake this job.

When the dreaded pandemic gripped the nation last year, this team had got engaged in this job. This time again the team has undertaken this service. A few days back, the team performed the funeral of a Bengaluru based woman who passed away in Bantwal a few days back.

Zeenat, president of the Front, says that such teams have been formed in different taluks of the district. She said that each of these teams of five to six members has been provided training in the talk.

She said that in the past, the administration used to perform the funeral of Covid patients without handing over the bodies to the close ones. She said that the teams have been formed to make sure that the bodies are disposed of in peaceable areas. The team members take all Covid precautions and wear PPE kits when performing the funeral, duly following the religious beliefs of the respective families," she said.

Dear Ladies I salute you for this great initiative. Kindly do not let your GUARD down with the correct public health practices for COVID-19 even though you are well equipped with PPE or vaccinated for COVID-19. There is lack of advocacy in handling the surface with gloves. You need to disinfect your hands often as soon as you touch any surface. I watched a burial ceremony of a priest Fr. Martin in Bangalore who died of COVID-19. There were too many breaches with adhering to COVID19 protocol in handling of the body. His body arrived at the cemetery in a glass casket and a family member touches the outer surface of the glass casket with gloves on but fails to disinfect the gloves and immediately touches her own outfit with those contaminated gloves. Also, during the burial, one of the PPE equipped body handler looses balance and falls while lowering the body to the pit. A priest lifts up the fallen man without adherence to appropriate COVID-19 safety protocol. Please be MINDFUL to ADHERE to the correct health and safely protocol for COVID-19, be a ROLE MODEL for OTHERS and ADVOCATE others. If you need any help, I am glad to provide you GUIDANCE. Yours truly Dr. Dorothy Rego BSc, MSc, PhD, MPH (A public health professional on pandemic response)

Many of the cases people do not need such services. At least allow the family to see the face of the mortal remains and let them conduct funeral as per their own customs. If the body is dead all the cells and also the this so called pandemic virus also die for sure. Just by creating fear among the common populace and removing vital parts for transplanting is not acceptable.

Thank God india still has selfless charitable organizations. It’s obvious the country is taken care by these people and not by the this govt in spite of govt hindering and discouraging thier sacred duty.

Instead of handing over the bodies to private parties, what difficulty is there for the administration to dispose off the victim bodies in a dignified way as the disease can attack any human any time and they are treated to cure till death.
