Panaji, Feb 4: Tollywood producer Sunkara Krishna Prasad Chowdary, popularly known as K P Chowdary, was found dead in a rented apartment in Goa on Monday, in what police suspect to be a case of suicide. The 44-year-old, originally from Telangana, had been residing alone in the flat for the past six to seven months, according to authorities.
North Goa Superintendent of Police Akshat Kaushal confirmed that the Siolim police outpost received information regarding Chowdary's death. Preliminary reports suggest that his friends grew concerned when he failed to respond to their calls and messages. They subsequently reached out to the flat owner, who discovered Chowdary hanging and immediately alerted the police. Inquest proceedings have been initiated, and investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death.
Hailing from Bonakal in Khammam district, Chowdary held a B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering and previously served as the director of operations at the Indian Institute of Aeronautical Engineering and Technology in Pune. He entered the film industry as a producer with the 2016 film Kabali and later acquired distribution rights for popular Telugu films such as Sardar Gabbar Singh and Seetamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, as well as the Tamil film Kanitan.
After establishing connections with several celebrities in the film industry, Chowdary eventually moved to Goa, where he launched a club. His personal and professional life, however, took a downturn when he was arrested by Cyberabad police in June 2023 on drug-related charges. Authorities alleged that he had suffered significant business losses and had procured 100 sachets of cocaine from a Nigerian peddler during a trip back from Goa in April of the same year.
The investigation into his death continues, with police examining all possible angles to understand the factors that may have led to the tragic incident.
