Kasargod, Apr 9: Manjeshwar police have arrested Uppala resident Rauf (47) and Kozhikode resident Shaiju (38) for their involvement in a series of thefts.
Locals had caught and handed over the accused to the police when they were trying to flee after snatching a mobile phone from a migrant worker near Uppala on the night of Thursday, April 8. Crimes that the duo was part of came to light once the police began interrogating them.
Police said that Rauf was involved in stealing cash and damaging documents at the Uppala head post office two months ago.
More than 30 cases have been registered against Shaiju at Adoor, Badiadka, Kasargod, Kumble, Kozhikode, Koyilandy and other police stations.
Rauf is accused of stabbing Uppala Manimunda resident Arshad a few months ago and of threatening him when he was on his way back after lodging a police complaint.
Shaiju is accused of breaking and entering into shops at Pachambala and his involvement was verified with the help of CCTV. He was also involved in a series of thefts at Kunjathur, Hosangadi, Uppala, Arikkady, Badiadka and other places.
Police said that Shaiju was also one among two people who were trying to break open a bakery at Seethangoli two days ago, but fled on a bike when they saw the police.
