Mangaluru: Awareness programme on 'Cyber and Other Crimes' held at SAC

Mangaluru, Dec 16: The student activity cell, students’ council and NCC units of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), here, in association with Bunder Police Station on December 15 organized an awareness programme on 'Cyber and Other Crimes' in the college auditorium.

This programme was organized in view of the celebration of Crime Prevention Month.

The sub-inspectors, Nagaraj, Vijayaraj and Rama Nayak from Bunder Police Station were on the dais. Vijayaraj briefed about the programme and Nagaraj spoke on various crimes especially about cybercrime and insisted that students be careful of social media and the use of electronic gadgets. He briefed the students about the impact of drug addiction among youth and advised them not to be victims of drugs.



Principal, Fr Dr Praveen Martis, SJ presided over the programme. He said that the students should fulfill society’s debt along with their studies. He suggested that the students respect and abide by the Statutory Laws and Regulations of our Constitution. He urged them to be aware of cybercrimes and join hands with the officials to prevent and spread awareness among their fellow beings. He also congratulated the officials of the Bunder Police Station for organizing such a meaningful progrmame which is the need of the hour.

During the programme, Robin D’Souza, an alumnus of SAC and an expert on Cyber Crime Information gave insights on how to make proper use of gadgets. He gave several examples of cybercrime victims and how they were duped by fraudsters. He told the students to be aware of such crimes and not to allow themselves to be victimized.

Dr Ishwara Bhat, the dean of Student Welfare, welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests. Paloma Rodrigues proposed the vote of thanks.
