Mangaluru: St Joseph Engineering College virtually launches GreenTech Hackathon 2020

Mangaluru, Nov 13: In an attempt to deliver technical and sustainable solutions to the existing local community problems, St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC) has come up with a unique initiative in the form of a GreenTech Hackathon 2020 that is intended to provide a solid platform for students to come together in creating and implementing novel ideas for a sustainable future.

The national-level virtual hackathon was virtually launched by Akshay Sridhar, commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on November 11.

During the virtual launch, Dr Rio D’Souza, principal of SJEC, briefed about the institute's involvement in the community engagement initiatives and the measures taken by SJEC in providing technical and sustainable solutions for local problems.

In a brief address, Akshay Sridhar appreciated the efforts of SJEC in organizing such an ideal event that is intended at contributing to the betterment of civilians of Mangaluru city. He went on to say that it is a proud moment that such an event of national significance is being organized in Mangaluru and that MCC will extend its support in implementing the best ideas generating out of the hackathon.

Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangaluru and president of SJEC, appreciated the college and the efforts of the organizing committee for planning such an event with a great social cause.

The department of Civil Engineering at SJEC in joint association with the SJEC-ISTE student chapter is organizing this national-level event that is expected to foster and strengthen the clean and green aspirations of the college.

The theme of the event is 'Waste Handling and Management' that is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030 identified by the United Nations. The hackathon will be presented in three editions namely, Software Edition, Hardware Edition and Open Track.
