Kasargod, April 23: Kasaragod police have arrested one person in connection with the murder of a migrant labourer that took place two days ago in the Anebagilu area of the city.

The accused has been identified as Sanjit Roy (25), a native of West Bengal. He has been arrested in connection with the murder of Sushant Roy (30), also from West Bengal.

According to police, both were part of a group of six labourers who had arrived in Kasaragod about six months ago to work on a building construction project. They were staying in workers’ quarters in Anebagilu. On Monday morning, a quarrel reportedly broke out among them.

During the altercation, Sushant reportedly collapsed on the spot after receiving a severe blow. The post-mortem report confirmed that a strong impact to the back of the head was the cause of death.

Following the incident, Sanjit Roy and others allegedly attempted to flee. However, police managed to take them into custody from Palakkad. In total, 14 individuals were questioned during the investigation, after which Sanjit Roy was arrested as the prime accused.

According to police, Sanjit Roy is a relative of the deceased. The altercation is said to have taken place under the influence of alcohol, and Sanjit is alleged to have attacked Sushant using a wooden log, resulting in his death.
