Mangalore, May 6: Breaking the long silence of the administration on the pressure being mounted by several quarters, particularly Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and its employees union, to ban movement of contract carriage buses moving on the nationalized routes in the district illegally as stage carriers, Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, V Ponnuraj, who also happens to head the Regional Transport Authority, said that no action would be initiated against such buses for the present.
He was responding to queries raised by reporters at a press conference held on Wednesday May 5 evening.
“It is true that several buses, which have licences to run as contract carriages, are operating on several routes in the district, and picking up passengers at various places in violation of norms. However, no action will be taken against them as of now, as such a step would affect the commuters. We will initiate action against them, as soon as KSRTC introduces enough buses to meet the demands of the passengers of the region,” he clarified.
