Mangaluru International Airport records 17.12% growth in passenger traffic during 2024

Mangaluru, Jan 10: Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) has recorded remarkable growth in both passenger traffic and Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) for the calendar year (CY) 2024 compared to 2023. This growth underscores the airport's strategic importance and commitment to enhancing passenger experience and operational efficiency.

In 2024, MIA managed 2,257,621 passengers, marking a significant increase from the 1,927,466 passengers handled in 2023. This represents a growth of 17.12% year-on-year. The airport also recorded its highest ever number of passengers in December 2024, with 206,410 passengers since commercial operation date of October 31, 2020, surpassing previous records. The previous highest number was 202,892 handled in October 2024.
 


 
The scheduled commercial Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) at MIA also saw a substantial increase. In 2024, the airport handled 16,416 ATMs, compared to 13,860 ATMs in 2023, reflecting a growth of 18.44%. Even the general aviation traffic too grew by 6.17% in 2024 compared to 2023 with the airport handling 340 chartered flights in 2024 as against 319 handled in 2023.
 
For the first nine months of the financial year 2024-25 (April to December 2024), MIA handled a total of 1,728,686 passengers, compared to 1,489,861 passengers in the same period of the financial year 2023-24. This represents a growth of 16%.
 
The number of domestic travelers increased by 16.8% in the first nine months of FY 2024-25 with 1,198,535 passengers compared to 1,026,088 in the same period of FY 2023-24. International travel also saw an increase of 14.3%, with 530,151 passengers travelling in the first nine months of FY 2024-25 compared to 463,773 in the same period of FY 2023-24.
 
The ATMs for the first nine months of FY 2024-25 also showed significant growth. MIA handled 12,116 ATMs, a 16% increase from the 10,448 ATMs handled in the same period of FY 2023-24. This impressive growth in passenger traffic and ATMs is a testament to MIA's continuous efforts to enhance its infrastructure, expand connectivity, and improve passenger services.
