Mangalore, Apr 19: Through a judgment, judge of the Junior Magirstrate First Class (JMFC) court here, has awarded jail sentences and fines to the Sri Rama Sene workers who had pelted stones at Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation buses during the district bandh called by it on January 27, 2009. Sri Rama Sene had given a call for Dakshina Kannada district bandh that day, inprotest against the arrest of its leader, Pramod Mutalik.
The stone pelting incidents had occurred at Padil in the city, where vehicles were blocked and a few buses were damaged. The Sene activists were agitated at the preventive arrest of their leader, Prasad Attavar, in connection with the district bandh. Ten accused in the case have been sentenced to 25 months and six days of simple imprisonment with a fine of Rs 4,000. Failing to pay up the fine will make them liable to undergo 40 additional days of imprisonment, as per the said judgment.
Those who have been sentenced in this case are, Roshan (20) from Padil, Sharat (25) and Kishore (26) from Veeranagar, Rajesh alias Raju (34) from Mulihithlu, Niranjan(24) from Alape Prashantnagar, Ganesh (25) and Gopal (26) from Bajal Nanthur, Diwakar (24) and Satish (21) from Veeranagar Perla and Ganesh (20) from Maroli.
