Chickballapur, Mar 15: Local MP and union law and justice minister, M Veerappa has opined that the proposed plan of diverting River Netravati to meet the drinking water requirement of central Karnataka regions will not create any problem for the people living in Dakshina Kannada district.
About the apprehension that the project will have irreversible adverse impact on the environment, ecology and marine life of Dakshina Kannada districtm Moily felt that this is just a propaganda, asserting that no such adversities will be felt.
Speaking to the press persons at Gauribidanur in the constituency on Sunday March 14 about the project, he clarified that he is completely indebted and loyal to Chickballapur, as he has been elected from there, and not to Dakshina Kannada district and that no one need to have any doubts about this aspect.
He also said that the union government will shortly give its nod for a proposed plan of providing drinking water to Chickballapur and other areas falling under Bangalore Rural district by diverting water from some major rivers (not Netravati), envisaging an outlay of about Rs 2,000 crore.
