Mangalore, Mar 14: “The young people and the students of the country have the potential, capacity and conviction to end the scourge of corruption in the country. They should immediately vibe to the task at hand and start to work towards this goal in right earnest,” urged Karnataka Lokyukta, Justice N Santhosh Hegde. He also expressed frustration at not being able to ensure that the most corrupt people, who fell into the Lokayukta net, are punished, observing that all the four estates of the society have now been encompassed with corruption
Delivering the foundation day lecture on the topic of ‘Public Morality and Ethics’ at the head office of Corporation Bank in the city on the occasion of the bank’s 105th Foundation Day on Friday March 12, he informed that he had already communicated with the students of 146 educational institutions on the issue of corruption. He congratulated Corporation Bank for achieving progress in leaps and bounds, sticking to the ideals set forth by its founder and drawing up specific plans for the upliftment of the rural people.
Hegde asserted on the sanctity of exercising the right to vote in elections, and the need to elect educated and deserving candidates. He expressed deep sorrow, and almost broke down, when explaining the futility of the efforts being made by the Lokayukta to wage an all out war against corruption, because of the unwillingness of the government to punish the guilty.

He said that the Bank, started with an investment of Rs 5,000, had grown into a giant with an annual turnover of about Rs 1,50,000 crore.
