Udupi, March 3: Former chairman and managing director of Syndicate Bank, Ambalpady Krishna Rao (84) passed away after a prolonged illness at his residence in Manipal here on Tuesday March 2.
Rao who possessed MA, ML and CAIIB degrees joined Syndicate Bank in 1975. He was appointed as the executive director in the year 1983 and then he went on to become the chairman and managing director in 1984 and served in the position for next two years.
After retirement he served as an advisor in LIC and Lamina Foundation, Nitte. He was the founder of Udupi Stanika Dravida Brahmana Sangha and he played a major role in establishing the Sharada Mantap marriage hall of Kunjibettu. He was serving as the honorary president of the Brahmana Sangha until his death. He was a good orator with great command over Kannada, Hindi and English.
On finishing SSLC Rao went to Chennai to work in a hotel where Kadandale Krishna Bhat of Woodlands hotel motivated him to pursue further education.
He was residing at Anantnagar, Manipal from last 15 years. His wife passed away in 1988. He is survived by his sister.
