Kundapur, Jul 14: Thieves who gained entry into Sri Rama temple at Padukone within the limits of Nada gram panchayat during the late night hours on Monday July 13, decamped with a silver aureole worth Rs 1.5 lac.
The thieves broke open the bolt of the main door of the temple, came into the premises, and took away the aureole. The theft came to light when the priest arrived at the temple on Tuesday morning to offer morning Puja. He saw that the door of the temple was broken and informed the police. A case about the theft has been registered in Gangolli police station.
Byndoor police circle inspector Suresh, and Gangolli station house officer Bheemashankar, visited the spot and undertook scrutiny.
The police had recently held a meeting in which the temples were asked to install CCTV cameras and sirens inside the temple. They were asked to undertake additional safety measures on account of increased chances of theft during monsoon months. But it is said, this temple does not have either CCTV cameras or siren.
