Bengaluru: Coronavirus cases may double in next 15 to 30 days - Health minister B Sriramulu

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SHP)

Bengaluru, Jul 12: State health minister B Sriramulu on Sunday July 12 said that Karnataka is likely to see a spike in coronavirus cases in the next 15 to 30 days. He also said that the challenge the increase in cases would pose in the coming two months would be monumental and therefore would test the government strategies to tackle the pandemic.

Although the statement by the health minister may ring alarm bells, he urged people to not panic. Through a series of tweets, Sriramulu stressed on the need to follow health guidelines laid down by the government to protect oneself from contracting the infection.

As on Saturday, the cumulative tally of COVID-19 cases in the state touched 36,216, including 613 fatalities and 14,716 discharges. "Lockdown has been announced in Bengaluru from Tuesday 8 pm for the next seven days. Abide by the regulations," he tweeted.

"Every day more than 2,000 cases of coronavirus are coming to fore," Sriramulu said on Saturday. "The number of coronavirus cases may double in the next 15 to 30 days in Karnataka. The next two months set to pose a big challenge before us," his tweet read.

Sensing the rise in coronavirus cases in the state capital, chief minister Yediyurappa had announced complete lockdown for one week starting from July 14. A move that was also supported by the former chief minister and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy. He had also said that there was a need to impose lockdown in other 'critical' districts and also demanded to ban inter-district travel except for the transportation of essential commodities.

"As COVID-19 cases are increasing in the state day by day, based on the advice of experts, complete lockdown will be imposed in Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural from July 14 Tuesday 8 pm to 5 am on July 22," chief minister B S Yediyurappa had said in a statement on Saturday, July 11.

@sg True , i totally agree...we as citizens juat blame the administration. How effective are we following all rules and regulations is more important. People just do what they want to do and expect govt only to ensure the cases reduce.

There is absolutely no point in blaming the government.
We the citizens are to be blamed for this exponential rise in number of cases. The govt has been educating us and warning us about corona for the last 3-4 months. But even today, when you step out into a public areas or go to a grocery store, you will see countless people without masks, or masks below their chin, flaunting social distancing norms. Behaving like they're immune to corona and that the rules are not meant for them.
I can see entire families strolling around like its a 'normal day in the park', when they have been repeatedly told to stay at home and go out only for emergencies. The few days that a local ice cream parlor was open here, it was thronged by families, old and young! I have come to understand the seriousness of the situation and It's been three and a half months since I have taken my child and family out of the house.
I am a doctor working as a private practitioner, and as i write this I have already had to remind quite a few patients to wear their masks as they entered our hospital. One patient had to be reminded twice!!!
So Before blaming the govt for the spread and expecting them to do everything, ask yourselves how much have We as citizens contributed to limiting the spread of the disease. How much have we followed the governments orders. Wearing a mask is the LEAST that we can do, and many are not ready to do even that!

Thanks Einstein!! Only you could have predicted this.
When the 3-month lockdown was in place, you should have utilized this time to prepare for the worst case scenario.
Even today, we have not scaled up the beds, isolation centers or even the testing
It is a shame that we have voted this government.
Your shortfalls and unpreparedness are exposed.

and what is the Govt's plan other than imposing ineffective lockdowns? None - BBMP cannot even be geared up to do antigen testing (is it not a shame that only 3 tests were carried out last weekend by BBMP across Bangalore? This Govt has not demonstrated any effective will to fight the pandemic.

Fair enough. That line of yours will be the most convincing line probably country wants to hear from responsible public servants rather misleading the country every alternative day. As of today country stll on payoff due to unplanned lockdown, Jumla economic packages led people left no option but to adopt suicidal trend due to uncerntainty future instead spare their concern to survive over covid19.
Estimated 14-15 crores have lost their jobs and massive numbers at the risk of losing jobs. India's GDP grew at 3.1 per cent in the final quarter of financial year 2019-20, lowest in 44 quarters and worst yet to come, according to the government data ...
