New Delhi, Feb 21: Young Indian pacer Harshit Rana, who has rapidly ascended the international cricketing ranks, credited senior fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for shaping his consistency and adaptability across all formats.

The 23-year-old made his Test debut during the Border-Gavaskar series in December before donning the Indian jersey in T20Is and ODIs against England.

During India’s tour of Australia, Rana had the opportunity to share the dressing room with Bumrah, an experience he believes significantly influenced his bowling.

“I have benefited immensely from working with Jassi bhai. He has vast experience and always guided me on how to adapt to different formats,” Rana told reporters after India’s six-wicket win over Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy on Thursday.

“We often discussed Test matches in Australia and other formats. One key lesson I picked up from him is consistency.”

Rana also acknowledged India's bowling coach, Morne Morkel, for refining his skills, particularly his line and length.

“I have learned a great deal from him. He has worked extensively on improving my accuracy,” he added.

Selected ahead of the more experienced Arshdeep Singh for India’s Champions Trophy opener, Rana shared the new-ball duties with veteran pacer Mohammed Shami against Bangladesh.

“Yes, of course, the backing from the coach and captain is there. That is why I am playing,” he said.

Reflecting on his journey, the Delhi speedster expressed gratitude for his hard-earned opportunity.

“I trained very hard. I did not get a chance initially, but I waited patiently. I always gave my 100 per cent in practice and was prepared to deliver whenever called upon.”

After a confidence-boosting three-wicket haul against Bangladesh, Rana is now focused on India’s much-anticipated clash against Pakistan on Sunday.

“I will take today’s momentum forward. There’s always a lot of hype around an India-Pakistan game, but we are treating it like any other match,” he said.
