Mumbai, Jul 10: With online frauds gaining momentum, a victim of honeytrap was duped of Rs 2.25 lac last week. The victim, a 28 year old doctor at KEM was tricked by an accused he had met online named Manisha.

Manisha reportedly acquainted the victim on a social networking site. She lured the doctor stating that she was based in the US and would be sending him a gift. Aware of what the accused had said, he believed the call received a few days later who posed as a custom official.

The victim was initially asked to pay Rs 36,000 for custom clearance which he did. The next day he got another call in which he was told that the package had foreign currency.  He was then told that he had to acquire a clearance certificate to receive the package for which he was asked to pay another Rs 1.99 lac.
