Udupi, Jul 8: Minister of Muzrai, ports and inland transport, Kota Srinivas Poojary inaugurated the new government Covid lab that commenced functioning in Udupi from Tuesday, July 7.
Poojary on the occasion stated how in the beginning Karnataka had only one testing lab and that with time the number of testing centres has increased. "With this new lab, the numbers of testing labs have gone up to 82 now," the minister said.
"People in the district had to depend on Mangaluru, Hassan and Shivamogga districts for testing in the beginning. But the tests reports can now will be available faster with the opening of this lab. More than 1,390 positive cases have been reported in the district so far. The cases of people who arrived from Maharashtra among them have exceeded to 1,100. As more people are arriving here from outside the state and outside the district, the chief minister, realizing the need, has approved the lab especially for the district," Poojary added.
"Udupi district is working systematically to control and treat the virus. I congratulate the district in-charge minister, all the MLAs and the deputy commissioner for the efforts in curbing the spread of the infection," he said.
An ambulance monitoring system was inaugurated by MLA Sunil Kumar. The system would help in preventing delay caused in the admission of patients in the hospital. "All the government ambulances in the district have been installed with GPS to prevent delay. This is the first such facility in the district,” said deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha.
The bed management system that provides details regarding the number of beds available in the hospitals of the district was inaugurated by MLA Raghupathi Bhat.
Coastal Development Authority president Mattaru Rathnaker Hegde, MLA Lalaji R Mendon, district panchayat CEO Preethi Gehlot, district surgeon Dr Madhusudhan Nayak, DHO Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda, COVID-19 district nodal officer Dr Prashanth Bhat, health department officials and others were present.
