Mangaluru, Jun 11: “The sea waves have become ferocious near the seashore at Someshwara Uchila on Thursday. If their intensity continues for the next two days, the houses near the sea at Someshwara Uchila will be facing risks,” said Someshwara taluk panchayat member Ravishankar.
Country boats that are fishing in Someshwara have been pulled and anchored on the sand. The waves are pounding rocks. The steps meant for getting down into the sea from the temple are getting washed away by the sea. There is fear that the waves may hit the houses of fishermen on the other part.
District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary who visited the seashore recently had assured of laying boulders temporarily at extremely dangerous places. As works were performed in other places before the rains, some areas are protected from sea erosion. Ravishankar opined that some more houses will get protection if temporary work is done at Someshwara temple and the vicinity of Uchila Battampady areas.
