Belagavi: Husband, wife commit suicide in quick succession

Belagavi, Jun 10: In a tragic incident which happened at Amtoor village in Bailhongal taluk of the district on Tuesday June 9, a couple ended their lives the same day.

In the said incident, the wife, overwhelmed by the fact that her husband, who was a teacher, had committed suicide, hanged herself. Gurunath Tavare (40), teacher of Amtoor high school chose to end his life by consuming poison. His wife, Meenakshi(32), hanged herself thereafter at her home.

On learning that her husband had consumed poison and killed himself at a field on Belagavi Road, his wife, who could not control her grief, hanged herself.

Gurunath was from Chikkaunavalli in Khanapur taluk. His wife was from Belagavi. Both were involved with frequent fights, and family dispute cas had been registered in Nandagad station. Gurunath, who was transferred to Amtoor school six months back, ended his life on Tuesday morning.

Complaints about these suicides were registered at Bailhongal police station.
