Beltangady: No confidence motion unseats Venur gram panchayat president

Beltangady, Jun 10: Mohini Shetty, BJP-supported president of Venur gram planchayat, lost her power after the no-confidence motion moved by a faction of the Congress members supported by the BJP members was passed without opposition.

The voting process was conducted at the meeting hall of Venur gram panchayat on Tuesday June 9 in the presence of Puttur assistant commissioner, Yatish Ullal. Out of 14 BJP-supported members, 13 were present. Out of ten Congress-supported members, four were present.

Six Congress-supported members indirectly expressed their support for the no-confidence motion by remaining absent. The motion was adopted without any resistance and without the need to poll, unanimously.

Venur gram panchayat term is set to end during the next year. Date for the election of the new president is yet to be fixed.
