Mangaluru, Jun 2: The Naguri traffic police have imposed fine on about 15 private buses near Jeppu, Netravati bridge and near Natekal for plying on the roads with more passengers than permitted and therefore violating precautionary orders.
The district administration had directed bus operators to carry a maximum of between 30-35 passengers, adhere to social distancing norms and wear face masks. Though only a few private buses have begun their operations, it was observed that the buses were crowded during morning hours as well as in the evenings. Traffic police postered near Pumpwell, stopped buses arriving from Thokottu in the morning and fined them for transporting passengers above the permissible limit.
Similarly, police personnel near the Jeppu bridge and Natekal fined about 15 private buses in the evening for the same offence. Highway Patrol 4 and Highway Patrol 6 of Naguri traffic police station have been credited with conducting the operation.
Bus owner left with only Rs 100:
Only a few city buses have begun operations from Talapady to State Bank from June 1. Though the ticket fare is increased by 15 per cent, the numbers of passengers were few. A private bus owner has opined that he might have been left with only Rs 100 after paying wages to the staff and spending for diesel.
