Mangaluru: 50 percent private buses to start operations from June 1

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 28: The private and city buses which fell silent with the enforcement of lockdown relating to spread of coronavirus are almost certain to come to life on June 1. However, indications are that initially, 50 percent of buses will begin their trips. As many as 150 city and service buses are expected to be pressed into service in Dakshina Kannada district while 20 city buses will run in Udupi.

The said decision was taken at the meeting of the private bus operators association in the city on Wednesday May 27. It was decided to run the buses, duly sticking to the government guidelines. President of Mangaluru City Bus Owners Association, Dilraj Ava, explained that representatives of the association had met the regional transport officer and the deputy commissioner on Wednesday. "We will obey the guidelines of the government but we have brought to the notice of the officials that it might be difficult to check body temperature of individual commuters and also to collect their personal details.”

Udupi City Bus Owners Association president, K Suresh Nayak, said that a meeting of city bus owners’ association will be held on May 29. "On May 28, we will meet the deputy commissioner and seek permission to enhance fare by 50 percent if the buses have to carry only 30 passengers at least till the problem created by coronavirus infection ceases," he said.

It is almost certain that city and service buses fares will go up. The transport minister has indicated that the fare might be hiked by 15 percent. An official notification will soon be issued and in all likelihood, the city bus fare which is calculated at eight rupees per stage may go up to ten rupees, it is said.

Udupi district commissioner G Jagadeesh, said that the bus owners have already been asked to begin bus services and told about the need to follow rules. He said that the government has been requested to meet the demands made by the bus owners association. He added that he will speak to the regional transport officer, and if there is a need, will convene meeting again.

Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, said that the bus owners have been given suitable instructions at a meeting held with them. She said that the passengers and bus conductors have been advised to maintain social distance and wear masks. She said that decision on fare increase will be taken after an official order of the government is received.

It is not the right time to increase fare ..at present condition , but to run bus with low capacity, sanitizing is
also concern of owners we understand . Now it is right time to Government to intervene and give the bus owners benefit of tax , reduce tax on diesel etc., for few months till the cases are normalise. It is to be seen how the public will react when buses are open and most of the people started to travel in their own vehicles , all these to be seen let us all hope for the better

It is very difficult to maintain the condition which Government has given to bus operators. If they fail means chances of spreading Corona virus no doubt. Raise in bus fare, maintaining cost , difficult to get passengers with high fares, only 30 passengers, I don't think that time has not come to start city buses.

we no need private bus any more, start KSRTC bus immediately like other city in karnataka. This is the right time to judge, once the ticket price will raise it will never go down. at least can save some innocent life in road accident and stop road race.

Amazed that people still don't understand that the loss and inefficiency of KSRTC costs the public far more money than their 'cheaper' bus fare.

The buses to be sanitized every trip from starting point to ending point ( steaming treatment ) !! people should wait till the sensitization process of buses !! One representative from the bus owners to be appointed to look after this activity which is strictly implemented. Similarly little discount given on TAX to maintain the cost of buses. MAKE IT SAFE INDIA AND STRONG INDIA !! and dont listen to that JUMLABHAJI ! Also in the bus minimum Touch to be observed and regular sanitize the most used steel bars in the BUS ( appoint a cleaner)

The face mask used by the public it might be dangerous than an automic bomb as they might not washed it with soap since months which is wrong ! people may think covering the mask its a ultimate !!! people should clean regularly after every use and every travel. Wash the hands before entering the house like we used do in olden days ( washing the feet )

Mr. pankaj- Anna god is always within us.

------to be honest people are scared to travel in buses now. i saw a govt bus in Jyoti circle carrying a single person -mlore to dharmasthala . they might get a few on the way/ but still its heavy loss.

All this drama is for 1 week. Nobody will travel out. This outdated business model eill faul. Then bus owners association will ask government compensation for their individual foolishness. Instead there is better idea. Remove all the seats of the bus and cooperate with traders. Bus iwners should become clearance and forwarding agents of daily essentials. This will revive this business. Use space sensibly. Dont let coronavirus infect ur bus space.
