Mangaluru, May 27: The private service and city bus owners have decided to resume bus operations on a limited scale initially in Dakshina Kannada district from June 1 onward. An important meeting of city bus owners is being held in the city on Wednesday. Service bus owners too are expected to hold a meeting today.
Private bus owners have already informed about their decision to begin bus operations from June 1. The bus owners are in a quandary as the district administration is yet to come out with guidelines. The bus owners will discuss about bus fare hike, route system and guidelines.
At the same time, Mangaluru division of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation has started to operate JNNURM buses on a limited scale. On Tuesday, a total of seven buses were run to Mudipu, Bajpe, Suratkal and Vamanjoor from Bejai and State Bank. KSRTC plans to steadily increase the number of bus services depending on the number of passengers.
In normal course, 40 JNNURM buses are operated daily. Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, who had convened a meeting at the office of the deputy commissioner here a few days back, had instructed these services to be introduced within a few days.
