Mangaluru: Ramanath Rai complains to DC over illegal sand extraction in Bantwal

Mangaluru, May 26: Former in-charge minister of Dakshina Kannada district, B Ramanath Rai, handed over a petition to the deputy commissioner of the district Sindhu B Rupesh on Tuesday, May 26, urging her to put a stop to illegal sand extraction that he said, has been going on unabashedly in Bantwal taluk.

Rai said that illegal sand extraction has been rampant in Bantwal taluk, and specifically in areas like Kadeshwalya, Karpe and Maninalkoor areas. "A contractor who has got sand extraction licence in Kadeshwalya, has been supporting illegal sand mining activities in other areas. Through him illegal sand extraction is prospering, and even though this is going on openly, departments like mining and geology, revenue and police have not taken any steps to curb the same.

“Even though the concerned were informed about these activities several times, because of political clout, the department has owned inertia. The individuals involved with illegal sand extraction are close aides of the MLA of the constituency and because of his pressure, the department has failed to initiate any action. Because of this, the government revenue to the tune of several crores of rupees is lost," Rai claimed.

He has urged the deputy commissioner to stop this menace by initiating impartial and necessary action against the culprits.

    So unraveling the Congi scenario in the recent weeks and in the Centre. You all have seen RaGa, Priynaka, Sonia, Siddu, DKS, Ivan, and now Rai try to hog the limelight somehow or other. Ruomors are also afloat. And if its to be believed, does this mean that we will have the same team contesting in 2024 elections from Congress?     Mr. Rai and his followers were some of those people who ruled Sand Mafia.
    Now, they are out of the game it seems..

    So far, Government. Hasn't taken rightfull step to solve this issue.. Here, common man has to struggle to bulid his house paying much of his estimated cost to sand.. Do something DC ma'am... The load which costed 5k before 1 year ,now costs 15k for the same.. Many have to give up their dream of building new house... If this continue s.

    BJPeee was complaining about 'Sand Mafia' before...Now its CONgress time !!!...

    These two parties taking turns to loot the country....We urgently need a third option....NO Deve Gowda please....

    Rai is very interested in in sand matters when he was in power or even now. But the truth is that people denied of sand now and even before but not the mafia. I urge the DC look into the sand supply to DK urgently. In this crisis period which this man don't want .

    Sand extraction is a good subject in DK&Udipi areas the MPs, MLAs&MLCs make huge money during their tenure. The developments like national highway, smart city, tourist exploration are just a gimmicks on the paper
