Bengaluru, May 22: Elections are scheduled to be held for legislative council and Rajya Sabha in June and July respectively. In all likelihood, the JD(S) and the Congress might strike an understanding for seat sharing so that their respective candidates sail through the election process without any hitch.
If the two parties come together, they can win three seats in the council election while in the Rajya Sabha election, they can bag two seats. In accordance with this plan, the Congress has proposed to JD(S) to sacrifice three council seats in exchange for one Rajya Sabha seat which it is willing to offer to the JD(S). In the council election, Congress can win two seats and JD(S) one as per their respective strengths.
Likewise, one Rajya Sabha seat can be won by the Congress on its own, but for the other seat, both these parties have to unite, failing which both will lose this seat. JD(S) is not totally agreeable for the proposal. The JD(S) leaders have proposed to select a person who is acceptable for both the parties for the second seat.
The Congress is ready if Deve Gowda is interested to get elected to Rajya Sabha. As per the current calculations, the JD(S) might field H D Deve Gowda while the Congress may field Mallikarjun Kharge. Kupendra Reddy of the JD(S) is retiring from the Rajya Sabha and he is interested in becoming a member of the legislative council, but Saravana of his own party is also eyeing this seat.
