Mangaluru, May 22: Deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh has ordered for complete lockdown in the district from 7 pm on Saturday, May 23 till 7 am on Monday, May 25 in order to curb the spread of coronavirus.

However, there will be no restrictions on sale of newspapers, vegetables, fish, meat, milk and medicine.

Shops, hotels and bars will remain closed. Movement of private vehicles is banned.

Weddings that are scheduled on Sunday can be held. Permission from local administration for them is mandatory. It is necessary for people travelling in vehicles for the wedding to obtain permission from the district administration. Weddings can be held only as per government guidelines. No other programmes are permitted.

    Whatever the justification may be, locking down Mangalore on EID day is not at all acceptable.
    I wonder if Khadar, J R Lobo, Mithun Rai ...everyone has taken voluntary retirement!!

    In Udipi where CORONA is spreading it's tentacles, local buses are hauling public (God only knows how many of them are carriers) in bulk, as per yesterday news, throwing all caution to the winds???
    And on other side, a few selected group of people are in quarantine, some in cozy hotels?

    This means from 7pm till Monday 7a.m.corona virus is very very active... It will be roaming in different form... So, whole country should sit inside for not getting infected.... Rest of the days it's inactive and very weak so that can't mutate....

    This is the kind of muddled thinking that has gotten is into this mess!!! On Sundays, The virus roams around like a Bhatakti Aatma hunting hunting down anyone on the roads and on other days, it goes and hides in its boot bungla?
    Seriously, what are they thinking. Either enforce strict lockdown on all days or none at all!!! I still see people roaming around without mask. Why hasn't the DC issued an order fir compulsory masks and fines related to it?

    Jossey sir, you are absolutely right we trust the educated, no doubt abut Deputy Commissioner, but to implement rules some uneducated will force. I still confused Saturday 7 PM to Monday 3 AM complete lockdown i mean as a precaution measure decision taken, what about Monday to Saturday that means full confidence about Corona will not effect may be it will take rest (Relax).

    Weddings that are scheduled on Sunday can be held. What hidden logic behind this still big question??????. Whoever getting marriage during this pandemic situation, apart from risk & fear are they intend to maintain social & physical distance ( I don't think they will).

    Total Lockdown you say, private vehicles are banned but taxis or auto rickshaws can ply?

    All the 6 days people are wandering here and there without any social distancing. This complete lock down seems that Virus will be coming in Sunday only. Fish, milk, meat show rooms are open and no private vehicle. This means everyone shoild use public transport for buying these items??
