Udupi, May 21: City buses will begin to serve the people of this city from June 1 onwards. This decision was taken at the meeting of city bus owners association held on Wednesday May 20, said president of the association K Suresh Nayak.
The owners are not inclined to run all the buses at a time.
They plan to test the mood of the passengers by introducing a few buses on some routes, and gradually increase the number of buses depending on passenger response.
After the lockdown on March 25, several owners had surrendered their permits to regional transport office. Because of different reasons, about ten percent of buses could not be surrendered. As the government has now extended road tax concession, the owners are expected to benefit.
Ninety buses serve the city bus routes in Udupi now.
