Udupi, May 20: In a mishap that occurred in the Arabian Sea, a fishing boat collided against a rock in the sea near Malpe port. As a result of this collision, the boat, which was worth Rs 80 lac capsized and sank into the sea.
This incident occurred when fishing boat Sri Swarnaraj, owned by Reshma Kharvi, was returning after fishing in deep sea.
The said boat had left Malpe port on May 14 for deep sea fishing. The mishap occurred on May 19 when it was returning after fishing for four days. The steering of the boat got cut and it crashed against the rock. The boat sunk after colliding with the rock. However, all the six men on board of the boat were rescued by fishermen of other boats.
It is estimated that the total loss incurred in this mishap is around Rs 80 lac, which includes fish worth Rs five lac, fishing net, diesel and the boat itself. A case in this regard is registered at the coastal protection force police station.
